"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference to the world, but the Marines don't have that problem." President Ronald Reagan This site is dedicated to my grandpa, Robert (Bob) Ricken who passed away May 18, 1998 with brain cancer while I was serving in Operation Desert Thunder and Operation Safe Departure.
Welcome to CorDogg.com. We hope our Web site helps you to understand what it is like to be a Marine. How we cope with the tasks at hand of our day-to-day life. How Marines are not only fierce fighting machines but also family orientated.
United States Marine Corps History
In 1775 the Marine Corps was established. The United States Marines were not only known for serving on land but also at sea.
In 1783 the Marine Corps went out of existence. The reestablishment of the Marine Corps was in 1798 Marines then saw action and took part in many operations.
During WWI for their heroic behavior the marines earned the title Devil Dogs.
Two decades later the Marine Corps landed in the Dominican Republic to evacuate those who wanted to leave and protect those staying.
1965 to 1975 was the longest war fought by the Marines, is known as Vietnam. During Vietnam there was about 85,000 Marines who were grounded.
The 1970's the Marine Corps had a significant role in protecting the NATO in Northern Europe.
The 1980's brought Terrorist attacks in large amounts among US Embassies. Marine Guards continued to protect them around the world. The late 80's the United States Marine Corps were a part of Operation Just Cause in order to once again protect Americans.
1990 was the largest movement of the Marine Corps since World War II, it is known as Operation Desert Shield. Over 92,000 Marines were deployed by January of 91'. Operation Desert Storm was launched in January of 1991. After the Persian Gulf, Marines were part of many deployments for example evacuating embassies from both Somalia and Liberia. The late 90's once again brought evacuations to the African Embassies.
09-11-2001... Operation Enduring Freedom. This operation began from the attack on U.S. soil. Terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. To this day, Operation Enduring Freedom is still going on. It is a war against terrorism that may never end.
The Marines still strive to be the best of the best. Each Marine who goes on the frontline need not worry they know they have their brother standing tall, proud, and with honor beside them.
Along with the heroism the United States Marines are: The Elite. The Few. The Proud. The Honorable.
Thank you. May God bless you and your family.
